Key Issues
The COMPAL Programme is a capacity building Programme on Competition and Consumer Protection Policies, which provides assistance to five countries, Bolivia, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Peru. It is funded by the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO - Switzerland).
The programme aims to strengthen capacities in various institutions dealing with competition and consumer protection policy issues in the five countries. In addition to providing support at national level, the Programme promotes the exchange of experiences and best practices among countries and promotes regional cooperation on Competition Policy.
The ultimate goal of this capacity building is to provide developing countries with tools and expertise to formulate and enforce competition law and policy in their markets and to enhance economic growth and development and thus provide consumers with lower prices, adequate quality and a wider variety of choice of goods and services.
Purpose of the event
- Disseminating the results and impacts of the COMPAL Programme as well as its method of work, interventions in the field and the tripartite character of the project.
- Identify new areas and donors for possible replication.
Expected outcome
- Mobilize interest and support from a sufficient number of development partners and donor countries for possible replication in other regions.
- Promote COMPAL as an innovative and effective way of capacity building.
