Making trade work for sustainable use of biodiversity

Organized by UNCTAD's BioTrade Initiative, with financial support of State Secretariat for Economic Affairs

Key Issues

The purpose of the event:

  • Highlight the increasing importance of BioTrade in development strategies and development cooperation processes.
  • Share experiences gained through partnerships in trade and biodiversity conservation, showing concrete results.
  • Formalize a partnership agreement between the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs and UNCTAD to promote an enabling policy environment for BioTrade activities.

Expected outcome/deliverables:

This event will address the importance of sound trade and economic policies as a means of enhancing biodiversity sustainable use and conservation.

It will also mark the starting point of a new phase of the BioTrade Facilitation Programme.
