Key Issues
The ministerial meeting is the coordination mechanism or forum for least developed countries, enabling policymakers and advisers from these countries to exchange views on key issues to be addressed by UNCTAD XII and their implications for growth and development in the countries concerned.
At the meeting, ministers will be briefed on the theme and sub-themes of UNCTAD XII and how they relate to national policymaking in least developed countries.
The meeting will give the ministers an opportunity to assess trade and development challenges facing least developed countries and to formulate common positions to advance their development interests. The ministers will also take stock of progress made in the Preparatory Committee's negotiation process and provide further political guidance to their negotiators at the Conference.
Purpose:
- To exchange views on key issues of UNCTAD XII and how they affect national policymaking in least developed countries;
- To measure the progress of the Preparatory Committee's negotiations and to forge common positions on key issues of interest to least developed countries;
- To exchange views on national and international policies, including international support measures in favour of least developed countries.
Participants:
Ministers and senior officials from least developed countries.
