Making sustainability standards work for small-scale farmers

Experts will analyze the impact of sustainability standards on small-scale farmers and will try to define strategies that help them maximize benefits while minimizing costs.

The high-level participants include:

  • The Honourable Janat Mukwaya, Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry of Uganda
  • The Honourable Dr Mary Michael Nagu, Minister of Industries, Trade and Marketing of the United Republic of Tanzania
  • Penniel Lyimo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the United Republic of Tanzania

The meeting will bring together some 90 participants from some 15 sub-Saharan African countries representing governmental institutions (i.e. from agriculture and trade ministries, standard offices), private sector producer and exporter associations, representatives of globally active supermarkets and NGOs, local NGOs, donor institutions, and academia.
